PIA Post Flood Seminars

Suppporting post disaster planning in flood affected communities.

These seminars are tailored for planners and other involved in building community resilience in flood affected communities specifically in regional areas

The Post Disaster Planning Project, funded through the Commonwealth Attorney General’s Department, is an example of the activities being undertaken by PIA in the delivery of value to its members.

The program has 4 key deliverables:
 1. Online reference resource
 2. Professional development seminar program
 3. Networking / mentoring program
 4. Outreach services and long life learning.

The seminar program, targeting planners and others involved in building community resilience, is the current focus of this project.

Objectives
 The topics selection is based on:
 • Acknowledgement of the potential shortfalls in technical skills and understanding of floods events and impacts;
 • Capturing and providing exposure to some of the best practice initiatives being rapidly developed within the heightened environment of awareness post the recent events experienced by Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria; and
 • Providing a forum for discussion around planning issues specific to regional communities.
